Metforin and Asprin side effects? What are the side affects of these two drugs? I have type 2 diabetes?

Z'adriens Mama replied: "For aspirin...tinnitus aka ringing of the ears. Aspirin: The main undesirable side effects of aspirin are gastrointestinal ulcers, stomach bleeding and tinnitus, especially in higher doses. In children and adolescents, aspirin is no longer used to control flu-like symptoms or the symptoms of chickenpox or other viral illnesses, due to the risk of Reye's syndrome Metforin: The most common side effects with metformin are nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating, diarrhea and loss of appetite. These symptoms occur in one out of every three patients. These side effects may be severe enough to cause therapy to be discontinued in one out of every 20 patients. These side effects are related to the dose of the medication and may decrease if the dose is reduced. A serious but rare side effect of metformin is lactic acidosis. Lactic acidosis occurs in one out of every 30,000 patients and is fatal in 50% of cases. The symptoms of lactic acidosis are weakness, trouble breathing, abnormal heartbeats, unusual muscle pain, stomach discomfort, light-headedness and feeling cold. Patients at risk for lactic acidosis include those with reduced function of the kidneys or liver, congestive heart failure, severe acute illnesses, and dehydration."

Sarabellum replied: "Do you mean metformin? The more common side effects of metformin include abdominal bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Side effects of aspirin include heartburn, nausea, epigastric distress. These reactions may or may not occur, it depends on the individual. I suggest that you ask your doctor about the side effects of the drugs you're taking and make sure you're not reacting adversely to the drugs you're taking."

What type of OTC pain reliever has the least amount of health side affects, long term and short term? Advil has ibuprofen , Tylenol has Acetaminophen, and then there are Asprin and naproxen sodium. If you have a link, please share. Thanks.

amandafofanda66 replied: "Ibuprofen."

fuzzykittyct replied: "Check Medline Plus Medical Encyclopedia, under Pain Medication. these meds are designed to aid in pain relief, if a pain reacures frequently, it is best to consult a Doctor for your symptoms may be resulting from something serious. It is my belief that pain medication , in many cases allows you to relax enough for your body to take care of joint or muscle pain itself. And should only be used sparingly. Your body has a tendency to become accustom to pain medication and many people who use them with some frequency find that they no longer ,can take the pain away with a normal dose."

Leanne C replied: "Paracetamol would be the drug of choice when it comes to safety, efficacy , long term use and cost of treatment. Normally for any acute or chronic pain, two tablets up to four times a day would be adequate to take the edge off most pain. However if the maximum dosage of 8 tablets in 24 hours is reached, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID)such as ibuprofen or diclofenac could be added. The three times a day dosing could be slotted in between the four doses of paracetamol to potentiate the effect of the pain relief. These to be taken with or after food. Of course questions should first be asked if the patient has any gastric problem or has any history of asthma as the NSAID could trigger off these underlying conditions. It must be made clear before any kind of counter prescribing that questions have to be asked if the patient is already self-medicating or if any particular group of drugs already taken has caused any side effects. If patient could not tolerate the NSAID, perhaps a combination of paracetamol with dihydrocodeine 30mg or codeine 30mg could be given up to three times a day. Combination product such as co-codamol or co-dydramol could be prescribed . Again, the issue of constipation must be addressed if any of these are to be considered, perhaps use of laxatives such as senna tablets two each night could be used adjuvantly."

I am type 2, & I am on metemofin + actos, But I have a bad side affects any impute? Ok I have been taken metemorfin for over a year, but I don't keep on top of it because of the side affects, I get diarrhea everytime I eat, & then it goes on for about 4 hours of stop & go, its really annoying & exhausting, I also have sleep apnea which I don't know what is bringing me down more, but I have just been worn to a frazzle, I take 2 BP meds & baby asprin, + prevacid, I am wondering if there is another medication I can take instead that won't be so hard on me but its perfectly normal to have the diarrhea like this though, I hate to get graphic but its just liquid most times & I am wondering is it just stomach acid? because after a while everything doesn't feel pleasant... well I have had my gall bladder removed. & well before & after the removal have had stomach problems still & since... but its worst when I am taking my meds.. which is why I tend to hit & miss with taking my meds all the time because of the affects

SpenS replied: "Metformin IR has been known to cause a high frequency of diarrhea in diabetes type 2 patients (has a side effect profile of 10%-53% frequency). Some professionals speculate that another version of metformin, the SR (or sustained release) formulation might have a better reaction in people that have GI upset/diarrhea. There are other options (like rosiglitazone and others) that you might want to discuss with a pharmacist or your physician. EDIT: It is not perfectly normal to have constant and severe diarrhea. Because you are having such a severe reaction to the medication I would consult with your physician to see if there is an alternative treatment. If you can't get in touch with your doctor call your pharmacist and see if there is anything that they can do to help. EDIT2: If you've already tried taking the medication with food and a full glass of water, there isn't much else you can do at this point without consulting a physician, unfortunately. That you have another condition that aggravates the situation further, is only another reason to try a different approach. Regardless of your past gall bladder surgery, severe diarrhea is a serious problem leading to electrolyte imbalances, malnutrition, dehydration, and potentially death if left untreated. You are stuck between choosing to take metformin for your diabetes and dealing with the annoying side effects or going to the doctor's office. In my opinion, the choice is obvious. Go see a professional. Disclaimer: Advice and opinions given are based on the information provided and must not be used as an official medical recommendation. An Asprin a Day & Heart Healthy - What's Your Opinion? As summarized in FDA's 1998 rule and in the updated professional labeling for aspirin, the 100-plus-year-old drug has been shown to reduce the risk of the following medical problems: stroke in those who have had a previous stroke or who have had a warning sign called a transient ischemic attack (mini-stroke) heart attack in those who have had a previous heart attack or experience angina (chest pain) death or complications from a heart attack if the drug is taken at the first signs of a heart attack recurrent blockage for those who have had heart bypass surgery or other procedures to clear blocked arteries, such as balloon angioplasty or carotid endarterectomy. Are you one of the many who take one asprin a day along side the common multi-vitamin? What is your opinion on asprin and its affects on the heart?

xyleisha replied: "I'm only 33 but when my feet and legs started falling asleep on a regular basis, I decided to start taking asprin every day "just in case". I've been taking one a day for about a week now and I've had no problems. 11 years ago, though, I was told I have duodenitis and I often have stomach troubles, so I've been watching it because asprin is said to upset the stomach and aggrivate ulcers (and duodenitis is close enough lol)"

earl c replied: "Yes it works. I use St. Josephs childrens asprin once a day and my blood pressure is fine."

The_Eternal_Red_Rose replied: "yes aspro is a popular remedy now to prevent strokes & heart attacks,it unclogs the blood clots, also another one to do this is garlic, they say it is even more better than aspirin, also if you have heart attack/stroke symptoms place an aspirin under the tongue & let it dissolve, this way it enters the blood stream quicker. I have had a stroke & they're pretty scary."

copy & paste replied: "Firstly, if you are a female talk to your medical practitioner before taking Aspirin, as this drug will dilute the blood and menstrual flow may become irregular or more. For heart patients Aspirin is given, but it should be taken under medical advice only. Read for further learning -- Daily use of aspirin is not right for everyone.- Aspirin has been shown to be helpful when used daily to lower the risk of heart attack, clot-related strokes and other blood flow problems. Many medical professionals prescribe aspirin for these uses. There may be a benefit to daily aspirin use for you if you have some kind of heart or blood vessel disease, or if you have evidence of poor blood flow to the brain. However, the risks of long-term aspirin use may be greater than the benefits if there are no signs of, or risk factors for heart or blood vessel disease. Every pre ion and over-the-counter medicine has benefits and risks even such a common and familiar medicine as aspirin. Aspirin use can result in serious side effects, such as stomach bleeding, bleeding in the brain, kidney failure, and some kinds of strokes. No medicine is completely safe. By carefully reviewing many different factors, your health professional can help you make the best choice for you.- Daily aspirin can be safest when prescribed by a medical health professional- Before deciding if daily aspirin use is right for you, your health professional will need to consider: * Your medical history and the history of your family members * Your use of other medicines, including pre ion and over-the-counter * Your use of other products, such as dietary supplements, including vitamins and herbals * Your allergies or sensitivities, and anything that affects your ability to use the medicine * What you have to gain, or the benefits, from the use of the medicine * Other options and their risks and benefits * What side effects you may experience * What dose, and what directions for use are best for you * How to know when the medicine is working or not working for this use If you are at risk for heart attack or stroke your doctor may prescribe aspirin to increase blood flow to the heart and brain. But any drug including aspirin can have harmful side effects, especially when mixed with other products. In fact, the chance of side effects increases with each new product you use. Make sure that all your health professionals are aware that you are using aspirin to reduce your risk of heart attack and clot-related strokes.-"

should it be illegal? should weed be illegal. its just a plant and it just grows like that and yes if it does catch alight there are some side affects. but look at asprin if u take 13 of them dats gonna be your last head ach? ino my spelling is crap Yes But look up on the tinternet weed does has not killed anyone tobba has but weed hasint yes there are some affects of the drug but look at alcahol that just makes yah wanna fight and tat leads to more deaths than weed weed just mongs yah out imagin all pubs got turned in to poy pubs every one would be happy. god sed i give you all my plants to use.??

RITA replied: "weed should not be illegal at all. cigerettes should."

Bri Lovely replied: "Marijuana should be legal. I attend many reform law meetings, and rallys over the summer season, to try and push this law in some states."

2JP Yeaa replied: "have you just finished a session mate lol"

the stank monster! replied: "because its a plant and we can all grow it the government wont be able to put tax on it thats why its illegal!"

nsl replied: "Yes i think it should."

Chibi.Midori replied: "no it should not.. weed is safer then alcohol!"

Liz C replied: "I think it should... it isn't fair on people who are around you, they'll end up getting brain damage or something. Then they'll die. Then you'll commit suicide. Then your girlfriend/boyfriend will commit suicide. It'll just go on like that."

alter_ego_marie replied: "there is a spell check you know.I smoked weed and couldn't function. It has no function! Why would you take 13 aspirin anyway? EDIT* Yes God did say that but he didn't say to SMOKE it.I have an herb book and none of the recipes or medical uses say to smoke it."

DAVID S replied: "It should be illegal for the under 25's as it has proven links to damaging the brain which is still developing until we hit our early 20's. If weed isn't legal then booze and tobacco should be illegal as well. Anything else is hypocritical."

BARROWMAN replied: "Weed. marijuana or what ever you call it should be made illegal. It leads to abuse of more health threatening drugs and on its own can lead to serious mental problems. Have you ever thought why your spelling is crap?"

Jc replied: "of course not. what should be illegal is not cutting your grass and have it 8 feet long. and drinking, smoking, and freakshily overweight people."

Dazzon replied: "i suppose it depends on your opinion, while some people say that weed is good as a therapeutic and sometimes medicinal drug, you do get the occasional person addicted to it which does cause problems where the law is concerned."

rapunzel replied: "as this is in health i assume you mean for pain relief ? no it should not be illegal, but like you point out (sort of) any drug that is abused can be a problem."

matjos26 replied: "marijuana is a terrible drug and it is illegal in the uk and is very addictive it causes mental illness and the the user to become delusional and aggressive if they cannot get any"

stephanie1101 replied: "I think that anything that is used medically in any way should be legal. It seems like there are more people worried about people using a Natural Plant ( i.e. smoking pot) when the real issues are man-made drugs put on the streets that are killing our kids and ruining the lives of families accross the globe."

Fresh replied: "should it be legal? yes, it isnt bcoz your govt wont get tax from it coz anyone can grow it as you pointed out, it is a plant and GOD given! Your law makers want $$ off it if there comes a day to legalise it, 99% of the business world will be doing back flips lol."

welsh_darkhorse replied: "Theres more harm in smoking cannabis than a cigarette to your lungs but the main reason is that is releases chemicals which damage your brain. Heavy use of cannabis can make you paranoid and schizophrenic. If you name me one person who smokes weed heavily for more than 5 years and their head isnt messed up then id be suprised."

Immortal replied: "Weed is illegal and it should stay that way. We'd have to many lazy people in the world. We already do but more? No thanks."

Really bad jaw pain on the left side? Yesterday I woke up with minor Jaw pain and had trouble eating & brushing my teeth. Took some asprin and hoped that it would be better tomorrow. Well, woke up this morning again with the same pain but a little worse. I'm having trouble eating due to the pain and it has a minor radiating pain. Its only on the left side of the jaw and I do have TMJ, but it has never affected me like this before. I checked my teeth, they don't hurt, I checked my gum and its fine. It just seems to be in the left area of the jaw, Upper more then lower. If anyone has any clue what this is please help. i don't want to make an appointment with a doctor if its nothing. Thanks in Advance, Ellie Have a dental guard at night and no ear pain. I remember the ear pain was the reason I was seeking medical attention when I first found out I had TMJ.

DaisyDuck replied: "I have had the TMJ pain where your jaw joint cracks when you open it sometimes a warm compress can alleviate some of the pain. Does your ear hurt? Sometimes you get referred pain from the joint to your ear? Not a health professional just my two cents worth. You also might be grinding your teeth at night, your dentist might suggest a bite guard."

Lyn B replied: "Unfortunately, it could be as number of things. Using some heat packs....see if you get relief. But you may need to be evaluated by the dentist or your doctor. My son just experienced a similar symptom and ending up at the dental surgeons with 3 jaw teeth extracted. And it could be you slept in such a way as to slightly dislodge your jaw and now it is out of place and sore."

Heavenly Home Girl replied: "I understand your pain. It is definitely TMJ/TMD. Anything can set it off. Chewing really chewy food, candy, gum. Lifting heavy s, sleeping position, weather. Perhaps your doctor or dentist can prescribe a pain medicine to relax your jaw muscles. Warm and Cool compresses (alternating every 20 minutes) can help. Relaxing as much as possible and a soft food diet for a few days. I hope you feel better."

Flynnie replied: "you may be grinding your teeth at night when you are sleeping, Go to your dentist they will look at your teeth and automatically be able to tell if you grind. I work at a dentist office and we see it all the time. dont always go for the obvious reasons grinding can have a big effect on your teeth and jaw....GET IT CHECKED...you may need a mouth gaurd for when you are sleeping"

Everything gets loud when I have a mild headache? When I get mild "headaches" I always feel hot in my head and EVERY little sound is extremely loud!!! Could you please explain this? As I understand it, extra blood flow to the brain (/head?) creates a headache in the first place, then asprin thins the blood so it will flow away from the brain (/head?). So, that might explain why my head gets hot. Is that also why every sound is ampified? It's really strange. My headaches are almost non existant, they are so mild! I only know that I have a headache because every sound is amplified! I can wear ear plugs to correct the side affect of the so called "headache". I can even get busy throughout the day & !!!!!!!!!!! I ALWAYS completely forgotten that I have a "headache" until my stomach starts to turn. Then, I fear it is too late for tylenol and that it would come back up. My headaches are very mild. Does anyone else have this experience? what about the loudness? Does increased blood flow to my brain/head area increase blood flow to my EARS? Why does everything get loud? THAT is my main question. Can you answer it? I've had head injuries (seriously) two times in my life. One was a childhood accident on the monkey bars... and another time I was in a car accident (not my fault! snow, ice, too fast for conditions, the other driver totaled my 1985 crown victoria. That's my big huge car! I was not unconcious that I know of, I remember everything, except the intial head impact? In my memory, blood just started pouring out of my head, I do not recall hitting the windwhield or steering wheel -the medics say I hit. ) I am also Bi Polar Manic Depressive. They say that a head injury sometimes wakes up that part of the brain. That is very interesting! Mostly, I guess it is genetics, but, I've heard that head injuries exacerbate or accelerate it? I did not have any true manic no sleep episodes until I was around 29. I am always more on the manic (excessively happy) side, but usually I can sleep OK. I've had meds. Thanks. I've never been drunk. I never drink. (being naturally somewhat manic/euphoric/natural high why would I want a "downer"?) I've never had a hang over. I don't think I have migraines or a history of migraines. My symptoms sound like migraines, but I do not have the blinding pain of the headache. I must be very lucky or special I guess. Yes, I am light sensitive during these times, but I can deal with that minor annoyance (sunglasses, draw the shades up, whatever.) it's the sheer volume of noise in my head that irritates me to no end! How can I survive? Ear plugs work, but then, I can't understand the conversations at work or such, so , it is an imperfect solution. But it helps. I just say "what?" a lot that day, huh? Would an Ice pack help reduce the noise in my head? cooling off my head (wet hair) helps my temperature a little. Do you have any "alternative" /natural remedies? I take enough meds now (with the Bi Polar thing). I do have crazy mad allergies! sinus! great idea!!!!!!!! Hypertension? I will have to think about that!! Thanks so very much! You are wonderful people!!!

ROAR replied: "Relates to the sinus I believe."

indian_cowboy replied: "It must be due to Hypertension. Ido have this problem. Tell me what all medicines u take and for what ailments and i can recommend some Natural remedies for u."

DC replied: "I don't know why things sound louder with headaches, but it is annoying. Since it makes headaches worse I would guess that you get more tuned in to the noise. You might try and herbalist or accupuncturist. This sort of thing is not easily diagnosed with traditional meds. My guess would be that your hormones are out of whack. Find someone who will test your hormone levels for you. Also, you may need your mental health meds adjusted and don't forget to disclose everything you take to anyone prescribing or recommending you any type of drug or supplement to avoid interactions."

nose piercing boil/irritation? I have had my nose ring for about... two months. Since the third week oh having it iv had a keloid. I've gone to see a peircer about it twice. I've dont the asprin treatment but its done little. Now the second and a half month iv gotten this boil... iv put asprin on it, again, very little has been done. I soaked it in saltwater- nothing, tea treatment-nothing. I've been very patient about this, but i must admit, the boil is a side affect of annoying the hell out of it. I dont want to get it taken out, i'd rather cry over it. Can anyone please help?

Rae replied: "yup i had that on my ear the first time i got it done we just have sensitive skin you might have to go to a doctor and get it removed thats what i did and it hurts realllyyy bad good luck =)"

head pains? For the past two weeks i have had bad head pain. its like i get this sharp pain through my head and then a tingling goes to different parts of my head. i went to the chiropractor and it did nothing for it. its like i got a brick on my head and a whole bunch of pressure with it. the tingling goes from the back of my head and moves to the top and sides of my head same with the pain. asprin and tylenol dulls it but dont take it away. anyone know what this could be? it affects my whole day. i go to the doctor tomorrow. will i be ok? my mother said that it could be stress and tension head aches. is that so? can anxiety affect your whole body and do this also. please help

dbgyog replied: "My dear there is no medicine to treat any pain! Pain killers kill the patient and not the pain. Yours' is acute pain, hence acupressure can treat it. Search a painful point behind your thumb nail and press it couragiously, your H/A will disappear within 30 seconds."

My husband has a weird stomach problem that no Dr. can seem to diagnose. Can anyone relate??? Okay. At first it just looks like acid-reflux, but its more like compulsive vomiting throughout the day. He can control the compulsion to some degree, and manages to not loose all of his nutrition. However, the stomach Acid is damaging his esophegus (sp?). He has been tested for Celiac Spru, Stomach Paralysis, and he's not allergic to meat or dairy. He doesn't smoke, drink coffee or eat acidic foods. It can happen 5-10 times a day before or after meals and also between meals altogether. If you have anything like these symptoms or have a guess as to what is the culprit, please drop me an email. Also, one more strange thing is that all throughout his childhood he would compulsively eat plain table salt. I have heard that this was indicitive of a metabolic disorder, but I can't find out anything more about it. Additional Details 1 day ago No, he has not had a colonoscopy. He has had an endoscopy and some sort of digestion test, where he drank radioactive stuff and then they watched him digest it. Both showed nothing. Its hard to answer the question about his current symptoms because he tries very hard to prevent himself from actually throwing up . With a lot of concentration and relaxation, he is able to not loose his food-so its kind of like heaving but he is usually successful at keeping the food inside and not out. When it does occasionally come out its kind of whiteish. it doesn't seem to be associated with any specific time of day (although without fail first thing in the morning he has it). like i said before, it can be bore meals, right after a meal, when he's really hungry, when he's not, etc. However, it doesn't seem to affect his appetite at all. He eats many times a day, though on days where is stomach is worse, his portions are smaller. He hasn't had any head trauma, headaches, or really any other problems. 1 day ago He takes asprin very rarely, and we drink alcohol (within moderation) a few times a week. However, in Nov. he got mono and didn't have a drop of alcohol for 3 months-symptoms of stomach problem did not change. He hasn't had any of these probelms:kidney-liver-disease ? gall stones ? headache ? head trauma? diabetes? abdominal surgery ? no results from any blood tests done so far. no pain, fever, diarrhea, constipation. he doesn't feel thirst, fait, or have dry mouth. But one of his biggest ways of easing his stomach just a bit is to drink ice water. so he drinks probobly 2ce the amount of water that most people due. oh-and its been a problem for the majority of his life - he's 23. And his Dad has always had a wierd stomach problem. Whenever his dad wouldn't get enough sleep at night - we would vomit and feel tsick the next day. ---just a side note.

Daniel H replied: "Just a guess try a stress test (psych)"

reasonablelady replied: "A friend had something similiar- she used peppermint oil and got some relief. She took in some of the vomit from morning and a sample from the afternoon. When you collect it put in a ziplock and refrigerate or freeze, so when you do get an appt. If you have not asked already- see if there is blockage or swelling from the stomach to the intestines, if food can not be processed and passed..your body will eliminate it any way it can. Hope this helps....good luck"

goldwing110083 replied: "I know this is really off the wall, but if I were him, I would have a TB test done.!!! TB is on a big comeback, can present these symptoms in rare cases. US doctors are NOT used to seeing TB, so often miss the diagnosis for years, long after the damage is done. This is NOT something to play with, for many stomach infections can leave perminent scarring, and if an artery ruptures, he can bleed to death in a matter of minutes and never know it. Get a TB test done immediately. IT costs little, and hopefully, it will be negative. A Positive TB test does NOT mean that is what it is, but it is an indication that further tests need to be done immediately. You would be better off with a foreign doctor who is used to seeing "wierd" symptoms daily. Good luck"

happydawg replied: "He needs to see psych. Was he sexually abused as a child?"

Curious replied: "You said there was no results with the blood work? If so then he probably doesn't have kidney disease- or it could be in the early stages. I have chronic kidney failure and the night I went into hospital I had compulsive vomiting and I also have acid reflux. Is he overweight? The blood work will check for protein in the urine and for the keratin level. He might need to see a neuphrologist."
